Top 5
essential habits - work
1) Keep good boundaries
Your
home needs to remain associated with feelings of rest, play and love as well as
work. Keep your work papers to one room, and lock work away at the end
of the day if you are in a shared space –no work litter!
2) Take regular breaks
Establish
a routine that works for you. Have a start and finish time with regular breaks.
The brain needs a break every 50-90 minute, and the body needs to move every 15
minutes
3) Audit achievements
Keep
a running list of everything you have done each day and each week. This will
help keep you motivated in quiet times and when you get bored.
4) Don’t take it personally
If
you feel criticised by an email, step away, take a break, be positive, and pick
the phone up, rather than spend a long time drafting an email reply.
5) Prioritise sleep
Memory,
learning, cell repair and replacement, neurogenesis all happens when we sleep
Top 5
essential habits – ourselves
1) Hydrate and eat healthy
Stress uses up essential
vitamins and minerals in our bodies. We need to replace them regularly. Use chocolate,
alcohol and sugar as treats, not essentials.
2) Keep Active
Move,
walk, dance, jump, skip, run, stretch every day
3) Be kind
Your
colleagues are also likely to feel low, tired, and demotivated at times. Be
patient, kind and ask them how they are coping and feeling. Listen without
judgement and share your own experiences to create mutual support. Say ‘thanks’
in the moment
4) Keep connected
We
all need to feel that we belong. Be proactive at creating and joining in with
team meetings and virtual social events. If you know other colleagues are
alone, reach out to buddy up on a daily basis.
5) Ask for help
There
is a huge swell of support and compassion from the majority of people, within
and outside the workplace. If you are worried about yourself, or your
colleagues, do not feel anxious, or judged about asking for help. Everyone
would rather you asked for help than suffered on your own.
